International Women's Day: Extraordinary Stories of Women in Syria

Under the theme “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All”, the United Nations in Syria in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the European Commission are celebrating the International Women’s Day , on Wednesday March 10th at 11:00 am, at Rida Said Hall – Damascus University,

The celebration will include beneficiaries of women empowerment projects, and will highlight these success stories of those women who overcame difficulties of life and improved their living conditions as well as their families and local communities. An exhibition of ongoing projects aiming to empower women will be held during the celebration.

The Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, was the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men. Since then, the UN has helped create a historic legacy of internationally-agreed strategies, standards, programmes and goals to advance the status of women worldwide. The empowerment of women continues to be a central feature of the UN's efforts to address social, economic and political challenges across the globe.
